Rotax 912 ULS
Carburetor anti ice system

 |
The Rotax 912 ULS when fitted to the CH-7B
is de-rated to about 95 HP by maintaining lower than max
permitted RPM. |
 |
Engine power is controlled by continually referencing a Manifold
Pressure Gauge (MAP) |
 |
The Robinson R22 utilises a carb temp probe to reference when
heated air is required to prevent carb icing and subsequent
engine failure.

 |
As the two Bing carbs fitted to the Rotax 912 ULS have no
provision to fit a probe to measure when icing might occur, the
CH-7B has been fitted with a SKYDRIVE anti-ice system
|
 |
The SKYDRIVE system works by continuously circulating hot water
through an alloy block close to the carb butterfly and
preventing ice from adhering to the carb. |
 |
In Australia, icing is a concern due the combination of humidity
and warm weather and the system is permanently operating on the
CH-7B to reduce pilot icing concerns |
